I spent an exciting weekend poking around my house noting all the spaces that need an overhaul. Delightful, no? We’ve decorated the main rooms, but getting all the peripheral spaces finished out to the same level often feels like death by a thousand paper cuts. Whenever they start to overwhelm me, I remind myself to take it one step at a time. Which is one reason I love One Room Challenges. One project, one baby step, and in a few short weeks, such transformation!
Today I thought I’d treat you to one of my all time favorite One Room Challenges. Lindsay Speace is a talented interior designer based in D.C. / soon to be Raleigh, and the wonder behind the blog, The Pursuit of Style. She reworked a client’s bedroom during last Spring’s One Room Challenge event, and I tell you, I swooned when I saw the reveal. I love me some good before & afters, but this was flat-out stunning. Her use of color, texture, and a dash of global chic accents to keep it from going too preppy were right up my alley. So my friends, enjoy this incredible makeover! (To follow the whole series, start here. I swear this stuff is better than reality tv!)
Admittedly, this project is a little more than a "peripheral" project, but it's great inspiration nonetheless. Here are some before pictures of the bedroom. It's in a D.C. condo so space was tight and storage at a premium. The wardrobe and dresser needed to stay. The HVAC is in the soffit above the head of the bed, so that presented another challenge.
First off, let's take a look at their inspiration. She calls their style "buttoned up boho," to reflect their California and Tennessee roots. They wanted something calming but with color and some outdoor textures so it didn't feel too feminine. Here is the inspiration board they came up with. You knew I'd be all over that ethnic print bolster!
Sounds like once they found the William Yeoward Vignatella wallpaper the rest fell into place quickly, including the nailhead trim on the headboard, the Turkish kilim rug overlay, and the custom peacock blue grass cloth night stands that I never ever would have thought of but that look amazing! Read more about them here.
OK, enough setup, let's get to the fun part. Check out this fabulous space she created!
So what do you think of this lightening fast makeover? Would a "one room challenge" - even a small one - help you beat the inertia keeping you from all the little papercut projects left in your home? Let me know in the comments!
